Wide land parabolic taper length drill for working on carbon steel, tool steel, alloy steel and free machining steel. High-speed steel tools are good for most general purpose applications, offering a combination of hardness and toughness for wear resistance. Titanium carbonitride coatings are harder and more wear-resistant than TiN for improved tool life and faster cutting speeds. Parabolic flute drill bits have larger flutes than regular drill bits, for improved chip removal when drilling metals with large chips such as aluminum or titanium. Right-hand cut tools have a cutting action that engages when they are run in a clockwise direction.
